The stay command is another great command that you need to teach your dog as early as possible. Many people believe that this command is quite difficult to teach. In fact, just like the other basic command of sit it is quite easy to get your dog to respond to.

One you have your dog sitting now you need to teach him to stay when you tell him too. Your dogs natural reaction is going to be follow you since you are his master. Therefore, after you have your dog sitting you can begin the process of teaching stay.

Get in front of your dog, remember to say his name and give the command to stay. Keep your hand up in a stop position, this will help in keeping your dogs attention focused on your hand. Now take a few steps backwards. If the dog looks like he is going to try to follow you then stop in your position and repeat the command.

Keep repeating this command with each time getting farther and farther away from your dog. Do not be discouraged if sometime after you have gotten a distance away if your dog suddenly gets up and comes to you. The reason for this is that he may feel like you are going to leave him.

By now, you should have your dog sitting for a length of time. Keep repeating the above steps until you have gained a decent distance between you and your dog. These two commands together will go a long way in training your dog to obey you and assist in any future training.

It is annoying when you are woken up in the middle of the night to your dog barking. As much as this is annoying to you just imagine what it is like for your neighbors. This is why it is important that you teach a dog not to bark excessively.

As with any other behavior with a do you need to understand the reasons behind your dog, doing what it is they are doing. There are a few main reasons as to why a dog barks. The first is to show any intruder or another dog that they are the alpha dog in that yard. Another reason is they are trying to alert you to something, either danger or simply to remind you it is feeding time. Third, they may feel stress; this could come because of being left alone for too long.

Now that you know the reasons as to why, how do you stop it. If it is a case of he is trying to prove his dominance, then he needs to learn that among your pack you are the alpha dog. It is also to remember that dogs tend to have a pack mentality. If you show your dominance then he will learn his place among the pack.

Spend some time to pamper your dog with medicated dog shampoo that are high quality and smells good like the neem pet shampoo. You’ll thank yourself for it later.

If he is trying to alert you to something, then you naturally need to take action. If it is simply a matter of he wants to be fed, then you need to ignore him. This may be hard to do but eventually he will give up on his barking to get what he wants.

The last reason is stress; dogs cannot tell you what happened to them. Therefore, you need to try to understand the reason for his stress. Maybe something happened while you were gone. Regardless of the reasons, the best option is obedience training as soon as you can start this will help deter any future problems from developing.

If you own a dog then you have probably came home with an arm full of groceries and had your dog tackle you the moment he saw you. While this is a sign of affection, it can be a mess if your bottle of orange juice breaks on the floor.

Beyond the dangers of having your dog jumping on you, there is the embarrassment factor of having this happen to a guest at your home. Dogs jump to either show affection or to get attention. If you have somebody over who is skittish of dogs this will be very embarrassing for you.

The simple way to teach a dog not to jump is easy When he does it simply push him away. This may seem to be mean, but the last thing you want to do is reward him for this bad behavior. Next, you will want to use the sit command. If you have trained him correctly, your dog will respond immediately to this.

Next, you will want to use the stay command in conjunction with the sit command. These two commands put together will go a long way in getting a dog not to jump up on you or a guest.

If you have not trained your dog either one of these commands, you may want to try using either his favorite chew toy or giving him a piece of rawhide to chew on to keep him occupied. One great thing to do is if you are going to the store is to take a piece of rawhide that has been soaked in soup. When you come through the door, give it to your dog to keep him at bay.

If you have ever came home and found you coffee table missing some of its original finish then you know all too well about a dogs chewing problem. There are several methods to prevent a dog from chewing; however before you put an end to his chewing day you need to understand why.

A dog’s natural reaction is to chew. He may chew because he is teething; he may be lonely or even just plain bored. Dogs require attention from their owners, when they do not get this attention; they find ways to get it. Therefore, the question is how you stop your dog from eating all of your stuff in your home.

First, if your dog is teething, get him chew toys that will sooth him while going through this difficult period. If your dog is past the teething stage then you might want to put him in a room that has very little for him to chew on, provide him a selection of chew toys that he can take his emotions out on while not destroying your furniture.

The one thing that you need to remember is to never punish a dog if you do not catch him in the act. Dogs are simple creatures, if you punish him ten minutes after he finished making a snack out of you slippers. The dog will not associate the two together. These are just a couple of ways to prevent your dog from chewing on your household goods; there are other methods out there if these do not work.
